Been trying so many of these devices over many years starting back when my parents bought me a small Sony reel to reel tape recorder Yes that was a very long time ago!.
Cut the story short I have at present 4 Visonic media players 3 old Creative mp3 players 2 iRiver portable players and my latest units are a Fiio x5 3rd gen and a Astell&Kern KANN.
The KANN is rock solid The Fiio 3rd gen X5 had so many issues mainly software and firmware problems.
Only about a week and a half ago I had the x5 lockup on me once more I was about to Smash it to bits when I remembered reading about replacing the original ROM with a modified one. So went looking and decided to go with the Purist ROM Version 1.2.5 V2 released with Jkbuha’s kernel and improved PerfectDynamics 3.0 FIXED my Fiio issues. Some small issues but now it works the way it should have when bought. Just on miner problem was that it removed most apps (did not need anyway) and replaced the Fiio music app with Apollo V1.1 no big problem but I did like there music app. Anyway DAC is saved from being Land Fill, still a few issues but device is working near 99% better thanks to the guys supplying the ROM for free. They do have 2 extra improvements for sale for this and other units but I’m sticking with this for now.
