Audio Technica's ATH-AD series covers the open-back wing-support audiophile line: the AD500X, AD700X, AD900X, and AD2000X. All use the distinctive Audio Technica 3D wing headband and a relatively large, round ear cup. The open-back design and the wing support make them comfortable for extended listening but give the ear cup minimal isolation and a specific acoustic character.
Dekoni's Elite Velour is the single available replacement for this platform. Velour is the correct material choice here: the open-back ATH-AD designs require airflow through the pad face to function acoustically. A leather pad would close down the presentation significantly and reduce the ATH-AD's characteristic airy, spatial response. The Elite Velour preserves the original character with better foam fill and improved durability over the stock padding.
