The Fostex TH-900, TH-X00 (the Drop collaboration), TH-600, and TH-500RP share a large, round ear cup with a biodynamic driver tuning that prioritises bass extension and warmth. The TH-900 with its Urushi lacquer cups is something of a collector's item; the TH-X00 brought the platform to a wider audience at a lower price. Denon's AH-D5000, AH-D7000, and related models also use this geometry.
Available materials
Elite Sheepskin: Real sheepskin, solid face. The TH-900 series already leans warm; sheepskin reinforces this. Bass impact increases, high-frequency extension softens slightly. For listeners who want to lean into the Fostex sound signature rather than neutralise it, this is the compatible choice.
Elite Fenestrated Sheepskin: Perforated sheepskin. Reduces the full-seal effect, keeping more treble extension and soundstage width than solid sheepskin allows. A technically interesting option for a headphone where both the bass warmth and the high-end extension contribute to its character.
Elite Hybrid: Velour face, leather surrounds. Pulls the TH-900 series back toward neutral: velour reduces the bass emphasis, leather surrounds maintain durability and thermal comfort. For listeners who find the stock Fostex sound too dark or bass-heavy, the hybrid moves the presentation in a more neutral direction.
