The Philips Fidelio X2HR is an open-back headphone that punches above its weight class: 50mm driver, good soundstage, and a tuning that is warm enough to be enjoyable without being muddy. The stock earpads are velour over foam that compress over time. Dekoni offers three upgrades for this platform.
Available materials
Choice Leather: Protein leather over memory foam. The X2HR's open-back character is reduced somewhat by leather's sealing effect, but the bass weight and body increase noticeably. For listeners who find the stock presentation a bit polite in the low end, leather brings more weight without the X2HR becoming a closed-back headphone.
Choice Suede: Microsuede, memory foam fill. More breathable and acoustically closer to the stock velour than leather. Maintains the X2HR's open character while improving pad durability and pressure distribution. The practical upgrade for most X2HR owners.
Elite Velour: High-grade velour, memory foam fill. The acoustically neutral option. Preserves the X2HR's tuning character exactly while replacing worn foam with a pad that holds its shape and distributes pressure more evenly. For the X2HR, which has a pleasant, natural presentation worth preserving, this is the conservative upgrade.
